CONDOLENCE MESSAGE We, the members of BHUMET family are deeply shocked to learn about the sad demise of Prof. Patcha Ramachandra Rao on January 10, 2010 in Madurai. Professor Ramachandra Rao was not only a distinguished alumnus of our Department but also served the Department as an exemplary teacher. His pioneering research in the area of rapid solidification in the country became a golden nucleus for the creation of a school of researchers in the general area of non-equilibrium processing. His alma-mater proudly counts him amongst select few who held many prestigious positions, such as Coordinator, School of Materials Science and Technology, Director, National Metallurgical Laboratory, Jamshedpur and Vice-Chancellor, Banaras Hindu University. During his stay at BHU, Professor Rao inspired many youngsters with his child-like scientific curiosity to carry out outstanding research. With the passing away of Professor Rao, the nation has lost a brilliant materials scientist and an eminent teacher. He is survived by his wife Smt. Sudha Rao, daughter Smt. Suparna and son Ch. Animesh. In this hour of grief we express our heart-felt condolences to the bereaved family and pray the Almighty that his soul may rest in peace.
