PROCEDURES TEACHER’S ACTIVITY  STUDENT ’ S ACTIVITY A. Preliminaries a. Prayer May I request everyone to stand up and start our day with a prayer. Everybody let’s pray.  Good morning class! Before you take your seats please pick up the pieces of paper under your chairs and arrange your chairs as well. You may now take your seats. b. Review What was the last discussion about? Is there any question about our past lesson? c. Motivation Show a Raw data Student’s will recite the prayer   Good morning Sir Flores Thank you Sir Last time we discussed about  _______. No Sir. Februar 13, 2017    What do these numbers represent?   Can we get clear and precise information immediately of who is youngest and oldest?   How can we make these numbers meaningful for anyone who does not know about the description of these numbers?   Arrange their ages from oldest to youngest B. Presentation Our topic for this day is all about statistics. Statistics  is the study of the collection, organization, analysis, and interpretation of data. It deals with all aspects of this, including the planning of data collection in terms of the design of surveys and experiments. Raw data , also known as source data, is data that has not been processed in order to be displayed in any sort of presentable form. Discussion What are examples of activities which you think Statistics is involved? Very good Census of population, registration of election voters. Other examples would be:   46% of people polled trust the present government, while 14% doubt the government capacity, and the rest abstained   A school's drop-out rate has decreased by 2%.   88% of people questioned feel that it is better to exercise at least twice a week.   The different ages of a person   No, because the numbers are not arranged from highest to lowest   data must be sorted or arranged from highest to lowest or lowest to highest Varied answers (National statistics office, accounting etc.)    8 out of 10 students are above average in academic performance Did you heard these statements? These are basic examples of statistics we see every day. Do you understand what these mean? Some problems or questions that can be answered using Statistics.   What fraction of Filipinos is living below poverty line?    What is the school’s graduation rate?   A couple has 4 boys, and they are pregnant again: what is their chance of having another boy? Uses of Statistics  A. Statistics helps in providing a better understanding and exact description of a phenomenon of nature. B. Statistics helps in proper and efficient planning of a statistical inquiry in any field of study. C. Statistics helps in collecting an appropriate quantitative data. D. Statistics helps in presenting complex data in a suitable tabular and graphic form for an easy and clear comprehension of the data. E. Statistics helps in drawing valid inferences, along with a measure of their reliability about the population parameters from the sample data. Statistics are used in the fields of business, math, economics, accounting, banking, government, astronomy, and the natural and social sciences. Business  - Businesses use statistics to find customer preferences, check the quality of products, market products, estimate costs and make decisions. Math  - Statistics help make mathematical theories more accurate. Economics  - Economists use statistics to find the relationship between supply and demand, the relationship between imports and exports, the inflation rate, the per capita income, and the national income rate. Yes Sir Yes Sir  Accounting  - Accountants use statistics to see how well a company is doing, discover trends and create projections for the next year. Banking  - Bankers use statistics to estimate the number of people depositing money versus the number requesting loans. Government  - The government uses statistics federally and locally to make budgets, set the minimum wage and discover the cost of living. Astronomy  - Astronomers use statistics to estimate the distance between objects in space and the timing of interstellar events. People working in the Natural and social sciences  use statistics to form theories on what they're studying, whether it's estimating large populations, predicting the weather or studying the human brain. Some uses of Statistics. Is the statistics importance to us? Why? C. Application  Activity 1: Find a partner and list down at least five (5) statements which you think statistics is involved. Example: -8 out of 10 Filipinos worry about extrajudicial killings — SWS survey Yes, because ..(varied answers) IV. EVALUATION Get ¼ sheet of paper and answer the following. Direction: Determine whether the given questions are statistical or non-statistical.  Answer it directly (Statistical or Non-Statistical) 1. How many cars were sold each month this year? 2. How many days are in December? 3. How many goals did the basketball teams score? 4. How many hours per day do student in the grade 6 class spend playing games? 5. What is your favorite color? V. ASSIGNMENT In a whole sheet of paper make a survey in your community or in school to find out how far students travel to come to school. Make the best estimate using kilometers. Ask at least 40 students and present your data using different methods.
