  Republic of the PhilippinesDepartment of EducationRegion IIIDivision of BulacanDistrict of Calumpit LINAGIT PRIMARY SCHOOL Meyto, Calumpit, Bulacan NARRATIVE REPORT ON BRIGADA ESKWELA SY 2011-2012Educators believe that environment plays a big part in pupils· learning.And so, if classrooms are not conducive to learning because of poor conditionand some defective school facilities, education is hindered.The Department of Education conducted this year·s Brigada Eskwela ,also known as the National Schools Maintenance Week on May 23-28, 2011where all education stakeholders contributed their time, effort and resources inensuring that the school facilities are ready in time for the school opening.As early as March, Ms. Filipina P. Yanga and teachers of Linagit PrimarySchool recruited volunteers who would participate in the brigade. Parents,school alumni and other people from the community were encouraged to jointhe week - long annual program. Since no national government money was putinto Brigada Eskwela (because there was simply no budget for that purpose),private businesses, NGO·s, private individuals and local government weretapped to solicit donations to cover the effort of repair and maintenance of theschool. It was on April when   the school physical facilities coordinator and somePTA members performed a school ocular to identify the school facilities thatneed repair and maintenance. After this, the steering committee planneddifferent school·s activities for Brigada Eskwela . Early morning of May 23, the teachers of Meyto Elementary School andLinagit Primary school held a parade that signaled the start of Brigada Eskwela.After the parade a short program followed. The presence of different groups ofvolunteers was acknowledged. Short orientation about the mechanics of the 6-day activity was given by Ms. Miguela M. Perez. Finally the opening of theBrigada Eskwela was announced. The willing, ready and able brigade includedzealous teachers, enthusiastic parents, excited students, and other concernpeople of the community. Professional help such as carpenters, welders, masons  and painters was provided by some generous benefactors to assist inreconstructing some of the classrooms. One major project donated to theschool by Mr. Pedro Faustino was the replacement of the roofs of the MarcosType Building. Among the minor activities are repainting of the classrooms· walls,ceilings, doors, windows and window grills, repair of desks, armchairs andcabinets. Cleaning of the school surroundings and rehabilitation of the schoolgarden were assigned to some mothers who found true enjoyment in doing their tasks. All the members of the brigade worked tirelessly for one week. They did allthat and more with an enviable spirit of camaraderie.May 28, was the last day of the week long activity. Through theoverwhelming support of the volunteers, the classrooms are restructured andspruced up. All school facilities are now in good condition. The schoolsurrounding is now free from tall grasses. And so, if the school andclassrooms, as well as its facilities are not conducive for learning, education ishindered.To ensure the preparedness of the school and for the improvement of the school facilities, as well as the school children, the Department of Educationconducted this year·s BRIGADA ESKWELA, also known as the National SchoolsMaintenance Week on May 23-28, 2011 where all education stakeholderscontributed and rendered their time, effort and resources. As early as February, Ms. Filipina P. The willing, ready and able brigade included zealousteachers, enthusiastic parents, excited students, and other concern people of thecommunity enjoined to pool their efforts towards making the school a clean andcomfortable learning environment for children.  Among the activities are repainting of the classrooms· walls, ceilings,doors, windows and window grills, repair of desks, armchairs and cabinets.Cleaning of the school surroundings and rehabilitation of the school garden wereassigned to some mothers who found true enjoyment in doing their tasks. All themembers of the brigade worked tirelessly for one week. They did all that and morewith an enviable spirit of camaraderie.May 28, was the last day of the week long activity. Generally, the school is now ready forthe school opening.Our school benefited not only from better classrooms and facilitiesbut also from the goodwill of people who exerted effort, spent time and sharedwhat they have to the betterment of the school. The true value of Brigada Eskwelais on how well we can teach our children the essence of cooperation andcommunity involvement.
