Fax: 04 498 5994    EXPLANATORY NOTES FOR REVIEWERS The draft Standard DZ 4229, a limited revision of NZS 4229:1999 Concrete masonry buildings not requiring specific engineering design, was released for public comment from May to July 2012. In that draft, the requirements formasonry wall coverings (which had been included in NZS 4229:1999) were removed as it is the intent of theMinistry of Business, Innovation and Employment (previously the Department of Building and Housing) to includethese requirements in the next amendment to Acceptable Solution E2/AS3 in New Zealand Building CodeDocument E2 ‘External moisture’.Following the review of public comments the P 4229 committee agreed that information on masonry veneer wallcoverings should be retained and additional changes included as an informative appendix in NZS 4229, to provideguidance during the transition period until E2/AS3 is amended. In conjunction with Standards New Zealand, the committee agreed that these changes were significant enough torequire an additional public comment period. The committee is seeking feedback on the proposed Section 13 and Appendix E only. Feedback that does notrelate to the proposed changes will be accepted but will not be considered as part of this round of publicconsultation. The proposed changes are: ã the introduction of tables for masonry veneer ties ã allowance of wet bedding of ties ã the requirement for masonry veneers to be constructed in running (or stretcher) bond pattern.    EXPLANATORY NOTES FOR REVIEWERS (continued)   Status This document is a proposed New Zealand Standard under the Standards Act 1988.Issue as a draft in this form provides the required statutory opportunity for consideration and comment by thebodies and persons having an interest in the Standard.
