PURPOSE:  The aim of this SIL is to avoid possible AOG situations resulting from the non-availability of appropriate oxygen containers and/or generators when operation under MMEL condition is not acceptable. This SIL provides interchangeability information for the passenger chemical oxygen systems supplied by vendors B/E Aerospace (former Puritan Bennett) and Dräger Aerospace. A complete revision of this SIL was done at revision 02. Changes in subject SIL are highlighted by a vertical revision bar in the left hand margin of the respective page. BACKGROUND:  The first issue of this SIL provided the technical interchangeability of B/E Aerospace (Puritan Bennett) passenger oxygen generators PN 117019-0X (13 minutes), PN 117028-0X (15 minutes) and PN 117042-0X (15 minutes) within B/E Aerospace containers. These generators are fitted on A318, A319, A320, A321, A300-600, A310, A330, A340 and A340-500/600 aircraft. Revision 1 of this SIL provided: ã All the possible technical interchangeabilities between Dräger Aerospace and B/E Aerospace (Puritan Bennett) passenger chemical oxygen containers ã All the possible technical interchangeabilities of different B/E Aerospace (Puritan Bennett)  passenger chemical oxygen containers ã The non-interchangeability between B/E Aerospace (Puritan Bennett) and Dräger Aerospace oxygen generators.   Revision 2 of this SIL provided (at revision 02 the SIL was entirely reworked): ã Additional details about chemical oxygen containers. ã An explanation of the part number logic for both vendors. ã Interchangeability of new part numbers issued since revision 1 (including the interchangeability of new part numbers present on A340-500/600 aircraft as well as A330/A340 with “Enhanced Cabin”). ã Interchangeability of Dräger Aerospace chemical oxygen containers. Revision 3 of this SIL provides: ã Updated information for permanent replacement of oxygen generators PN 117019-0X (13 minutes), PN 117028-0X (15 minutes) by oxygen generators PN 117042-0X (15 minutes) within B/E Aerospace containers with a link to dedicated Airbus SIL 35-012.  Note: A mention “SEE SIL 35-007” is found at the level of the oxygen containers in each applicable IPC 35-21. APPLICABILITY FOR AOG SITUATIONS: If necessary, the approval for replacement of the oxygen generator (described in paragraph 3.1 and 3.2) as well as container interchangeability (described in paragraph 3.5, 3.6, 3.7 and 3.8) is to be negotiated independently by the operators with their local Airworthiness Authorities. This should be done in advance, in order to avoid any additional delay in case of AOG. The generator replacements presented in this SIL must be limited to AOG cases, since the part number of the complete oxygen container would have to be changed for permanent installation/modification. Therefore it is required that the aircraft recover its initial configuration as soon as the parts are available and not later than within 500 FH.     AIRBUS    SERVICE INFORMATION LETTER SIL NUMBER:  35-007 PAGE:  3 of 37 DATE:  Feb 14/1995 REVISION:  03, Jul 19/2006 3. DESCRIPTION:  Two vendors - B/E Aerospace (former “Puritan Bennett”) and Dräger Aerospace - supply Airbus aircraft with passenger oxygen systems. The cabin emergency “chemical” oxygen system consists of self-contained oxygen container assemblies. Each container assembly is composed of: - Solid-state chemical oxygen generator(s). - Continuous flow type oxygen masks with face piece, reservoir bag, flexible tubing and lanyard connected to the generator (pulling the mask lanyard will pull the “release pin” and will activate the oxygen generator). - An electrical door latching mechanism that opens the container door when supplied with electrical  power. The door can be opened manually thanks to the cabin release tool in case of malfunction. - A door stop for maintenance/test purpose that allows testing of the door latch mechanism without deploying the masks. Container general information:   Container Type Door dimension (mm) Number of masks Common usage I 305 x 260 2/3/4* Supply channels, ceilings, door frame linings. II 260 x 164 2 *  Side walls, lavatories, low ceilings, galleys, crew rest compartments. III 500 x 176 2/3/4/5 Central high ceiling areas. V 340 x 254 2/3/4* Supply channels. VI 600 x 203 2/3/4/5/6* Central supply channels. (Note: Type IV containers are not used on Airbus aircraft) *  Some Type I, II, V and VI containers are equipped with a “PULL” Flag attached to the masks. Purpose of the ”PULL” Flag is to extend the reach envelope of the masks in order to enable users to get access to the emergency oxygen masks whatever their - standing or seating - position.       AIRBUS    SERVICE INFORMATION LETTER SIL NUMBER:  35-007 PAGE:  4 of 37 DATE:  Feb 14/1995 REVISION:  03, Jul 19/2006 ã B/E AEROSPACE (Puritan Bennett): The company that was formerly called Puritan-Bennett Aero Systems Co. is now a part of B/E Aerospace. In all cases a PN marked “B/E Aerospace” and the same PN marked Puritan-Bennett Aero Systems Co. are fully interchangeable.
