It was approved on behalf of the Council of Standards Australia on30 November 2001 and published on 18 January 2002.The following interests are represented on Committee CH-032:Australian Concrete AssociationCSIRO Land and WaterQueensland University of TechnologyScience Industry AustraliaRoyal Australian Chemical InstituteUniversity of SydneyUniversity of South Australia Keeping Standards up-to-date Standards are living documents which reflect progress in science, technology andsystems. To maintain their currency, all Standards are periodically reviewed, andnew editions are published. Between editions, amendments may be issued.Standards may also be withdrawn. It is important that readers assure themselvesthey are using a current Standard, which should include any amendments whichmay have been published since the Standard was purchased.Detailed informationabout Standards canbe found by visiting the StandardsAustralia web site atwww.standards.com.auand looking up the relevant Standardin the on-line catalogue.Alternatively, the printed Catalogue provides information current at 1 January eachyear, and the monthly magazine, The Australian Standard  , has a full listing of revisions and amendments published each month. We also welcome suggestions for improvement in our Standards, and especiallyencourage readers to notify us immediately of any apparent inaccuracies orambiguities. Contact us via email at [email protected], or write to the Chief Executive, Standards Australia International Ltd, GPO Box 5420, Sydney,NSW 2001. This Standard was issued in draft form for comment as DR 01250.    T   h   i  s   i  s  a   f  r  e  e   7  p  a  g  e  s  a  m  p   l  e .   A  c  c  e  s  s   t   h  e   f  u   l   l  v  e  r  s   i  o  n  a   t   h   t   t  p  :   /   /   i  n   f  o  s   t  o  r  e .  s  a   i  g   l  o   b  a   l .  c  o  m .  AS 4816.1––2002 Australian Standard ™ Determination of particle sizedistribution by gravitational liquidsedimentation methodsPart 1: General principles andguidelines First published as AS 4816.1 –– 2002. This Standard is identical with and has been reproduced from ISO 13317-1:2001,  Determination of  particle size distribution by gravitational liquid sedimentation methods, Part 1: General principlesand guidelines .The objective of this Standard is to cover methods for determining the particle size distributions of particulate materials, typically in the size range 0.5 µ m to 100 µ m, by gravitational sedimentation in aliquid. As this Standard is reproduced from an international Standard, the following applies:(a)   Its number appears on the cover and title page while the International Standard number appearsonly on the cover.(b)   In the source text, ‘this part of ISO 13317’ should read ‘this Australian Standard’.(c)   A full point substitutes for a comma when referring to a decimal marker.(d)   Substitute ‘mL’ for ml’ wherever it appears.(e)   The following corrections should be made:(i)Page 6, the denominator of Equation 9 should be  x  St . It should not be raised to the power 5/2. (ii)Page 8, Clause 6.2, line 3. replace ‘mutual affect’ with ‘mutual effect’.(f)   With the exception of ISO 9276-1,  Determination of particle size distribution by gravitationalliquid sedimentation methods , Part 1: General principles and guidelines which has beenadopted as AS 4932.1,  Determination of particle size distribution by gravitational liquid sedimentation methods, Part 1: General principles and guidelines ,   the ISO documents listed asnormative references in Clause 2 have not been adopted as Australian Standards.    T   h   i  s   i  s  a   f  r  e  e   7  p  a  g  e  s  a  m  p   l  e .   A  c  c  e  s  s   t   h  e   f  u   l   l  v  e  r  s   i  o  n  a   t   h   t   t  p  :   /   /   i  n   f  o  s   t  o  r  e .  s  a   i  g   l  o   b  a   l .  c  o  m .
