To release the battery, push the BATTERY RELEASE switch, located inside of the LCD screen on the camera, while pressing down on the battery. Fully charged batteries should record for approximately 1 hour. To insert the memory card, open the screen and pull the door open from the top. Then, slide the memory card in, face up (metal contacts should be facing down). The card should lock into place. To eject the memory card, just push the card in further, and it should pop out. To turn on the camera, open the screen and press the ON/OFF button on the top of the camera. 2. To zoom in and out, use the rolling W/T switch on the top of the camera. 3. To record video, press the silver record button at the back of the camera. There are three modes to choose from on this camera: Auto, Manual and Cinema. In this class we will be using the Manual Recording Mode, which allows more flexibility and access to more advanced functions and menu settings. Select Manual and Press OK. It is very important to initialize the camera BEFORE using it. After you’ve finished shooting, make sure you back up your footage to your external hard drive before returning the camera to the cage. 1. Press the HOME button inside of the screen on the camera. Click on Complete Initialization, then select Yes. 8. Wait for the camera to finish Initialization, then you can move on to the next settings. Press the FUNC. button on the top left of the screen. Programs” button. 1. Program AE - "Program auto exposure," the camera automatically adjusts itself in this mode. 2. Tv - "Shutter Priority auto exposure," this mode allows you to set the shutter speed when shooting video. To set the actual speed slide your finger along the different shutter speeds to select the appropriate speed. 3. Av - "Aperture Priority auto exposure," this mode allows you to set the iris or aperture. Slide your finger along the different F stops to select the desired aperture setting. 4. SCN Presets - This option allows you to select from a variety of built-in presets. The presets are based on the shooting conditions you encounter. They allow you to set the camera for conditions like sports, portraiture or going to the beach. For a beginning user it is recommended to use the Program AE mode. AWB or "Auto White Balance" The white balance automatically sets itself in this mode. 2. Daylight (sun icon) - This mode assumes you are shooting outdoors on a sunny day. 3. Shade (icon of house with shade) - This mode assumes you are shooting in a shady spot during a sunny day. 4. Cloudy (cloud icon) This mode assumes you are shooting on a cloudy day. 5. Fluorescent (bar icon) - This assumes you are shooting in a room like an office with fluorescent lighting. 6. Fluorescent H (bar icon with H) - This is the same as fluorescent, but to a much greater degree. It assumes you are shooting in a room where there are very harsh fluorescent lights. 7. Tungsten (pear shaped light bulb) - This mode assumes you are shooting indoors with traditional pear-shaped light bulbs lighting the room. 8. Custom White Balance (box with triangles underneath) - Use this mode to manually set the white balance to the conditions of the room. Point the camera at something that is supposed to appear as white, then press “Set WB” and wait for a few seconds. When the icon stops flashing the white balance has been set. Setting a Custom White Balance Setting a custom White Balance will give the most accurate color reading for the type of light that you are currently in. Point the camera's lens at something that's white i.e. a piece of paper, a white wall. 2. Press the Set WB button. 3. Once the Custom WB symbol stops blinking the White Balance is set. Turn on Audio Level Indicator Select the "Audio Level Indicator" to see the audio levels. Ideally you want the levels to be about halfway between the 12 and 0. If the levels are hitting the 0 and are red then you need to bring the audio down. Turn on Manual Focus 1. To change the focus to manual press the “MF” button on the bottom of the screen. An orange dot will appear next to the “MF.” 2. To focus on an object closer to you hold down or tap on the person icon. 3. To focus on an object far away hold down or tap the mountain icon. When you let go you will see an icon of four triangles flashing. When that icon disappears your subject should be in focus. Press the “M” on the bottom on the left side of the screen to turn on manual exposure control. An orange dot will appear. To change exposure slide your finger on the values on the left side of the screen to either brighten or darken the image. If you have trouble hearing audio in your headphones, make sure that the menu settings for headphones are correct. Plug in the headphones into the input on the LEFT, inside of the LCD Screen. Press the wrench symbol on the top right side of the screen. 4. Scroll down and press on the AV/Headphones option. Press the “X” on the top of the screen to get back to the main shooting screen. Each camera kit contains a mini shotgun microphone. Mount the microphone on the accessory shoe on top of the camera.
