1961

conviction

Friendship
College
students,
known

“Friendship
Nine”.
Various

have
been
organized
around
an
ETV‐ produced
documentary
designed
to
highlight
the
importance
of
the
Jail,
No
Bail
initiative
as
a
cornerstone
of
the
Civil
Rights
Movement.
It
was
an
occurrence
which
was
unique
to
Rock
Hill
and
re‐invigorated
the
sit‐in
movement
nationally.

Mission Through organized celebrations and activities, recognize the months of January through March 2011 as the 50th Anniversary commemoration period of the Jail, No Bail movement – an occurrence which was unique to Rock Hill, re-invigorated the sit-in movement on the national scene, and was a key force in the entire Civil Rights movement.
