E riez’ Model CF-5 Wet High Intensity Magnetic Separa-tor is designed primarily for use as a laboratory unit but itis of such size and portability that it can alsofunction suitably as a Pilot Plant machine. As alaboratory device, it can be utilized to predict theoperation and performance of larger models.Data generated by this continuous unit can bedirectly applied for scale–up to units capable of handling 120 tph (109 mtph) of dry feed.The Model CF-5 Magnetic separator is completelycontrollable. All variables are independently adjust-able for maximum flexibility of operation. Thesevariables include magnetic field strength, feed density,feed rate, annular ring speed, product splitter positionand rinse spray quantity.Samples can be analyzed easily by an investigator todetermine the advantages and the disadvantages of varying factors such as magnetic intensity, fluxconverging elements, feed rate, percentage of feedsolids and other variables.The Model CF-5 WHIMS is particularly effectivefor separation or concentration of weakly magneticmaterials such as:ãHematite and goethite in the benefication of iron ores.ãIron oxides and ferrosilicates from quartz and claysused in manufacturing glass, ceramics and glazes.ãIlmenite, wolframite and columbite from gangueduring concentration.ãFerro–oxides and ferro–titanium oxides fromcassiterite, zircon and rutile concentrate. PRINCIPLES OF OPERATION The Separator has three main components: ELECTRO-COIL - generates highmagnetic field.ANNULAR RING - Contains flux-converging elements made from ex-panded metal sheet. The elements havesharp edges to which the feed material isexposed. Each edge becomes highlyinduced during operation and provides thenecessary high-intensity, high-gradientfield to separate or attract weaklymagnetic particles. When stacked, theelement plates form vertically runninggrooves which assure clean discharge of non-magnetics. Plugging by oversizedmaterial is eliminated by the lateralopenings which permit large particles tobe pushed out of the way.DISCHARGE TRAY - Collectsseparated materials below the annularring. Splitters in the tray are positionedto produce magnetic middling and non-magnetic fractions. Slurried feed containing magnetics andnon-magnetics is introduced into themoving ring containing the magneticmatrix. The magnetized elementsattract and hold the ferromagneticparticles while allowing non-magneticfractions to pass through the magneticzone, carried along by the drag force of the slurry water.As the element holding trappedmagnetics is carried out of the mag-netic field by the motion of therevolving ring, the separated magneticmaterials are released. The element passes through a washingstation, where the magnetics are flushedinto a compartmented discharge tray.Adjustable dividers keep the magneticand non-magnetic fractions separate.
