MADELIA AREA Chamber NEWSLETTER
February 2015 Newsletter
Well, 2015 is here and we at the Madelia Area Chamber of Commerce are very excited about our schedule this year. We have many events planned that will enhance your business and our community. Someone told me recently that he was renewing his Chamber membership because, as he put it, “When the economy is strong, the Chamber’s work is icing on the cake and when the economy is slow, we need the Chamber more than ever, so as I see it, it’s a win - win situation”. In 2015, you will see the Chamber doing more things than ever to help small businesses, and promote our members, because it’s so important to all of us. To continue the success and prosperity of the Madelia Area Chamber of Commerce, we hope that you will renew your membership for 2015. If you are not currently a member, I personally invite you to join the organization that is doing what most people think just happens. First off, we are hosting a new event called “Funky Bowling” on Monday, February 9th at Madelia Lanes. Funky bowling is definitely a great way to de-stress and enjoy time with your friends, co-workers and business associates on a 4 person team for a night a fun. The team registration of $60 includes two games of bowling, a chicken dinner buffet, awards, prizes, event gift bag and two raffle tickets per team member. I challenge you to find your 4 team member and I guarantee you will have unique night of bowling. This event is open to the public. Registration forms are available at the Chamber office by calling 507-642-8822 or e-mail us,
[email protected].; reminder deadline for your team is Friday, January 30th and we have room for 4 more teams. Please join us! Our next event is a workshop that optimizes your happiness, “Positively Happy” on Thursday, February 26th from 6-9pm at the Madelia Golf Course Clubhouse. What does it take to make you happy - a rewarding career, a big bank account, or the perfect person in your life? What if you could experience happiness from the inside-no matter what is going on in your life? Research shows we all have a happiness set-point and just like your thermostat at home, we can raise our happiness beyond our set-point. Happiness matters to all of us. We all want to live happy and fulfilling lives and we want that for others too. During the Positively Happy Workshop you will learn scientifically proven actions to boost happiness for yourself and others. You might be a little skeptical about the idea of becoming happier. Rest assured, this workshop is more than promoting mere enjoyment. Happiness is associated with higher engagement, better health, increased productivity, higher energy, a greater sense of well-being, and many other desirable outcomes. The techniques you will learn are not just about feeling good but also about being more successful and living a more rewarding life. The workshop facilitator, Lisa Jean Smith is the President of Learning Journey, Inc. For the past 25 years she has facilitated training experiences for thousands of participants from every area of business and industry in both the private and public sectors. She is a Certified Master Trainer for DDI and Achieve Global. As a champion of interpersonal skills, Lisa Jean assists organizations – from fortune 500 to family owned, agriculture to medical technology - in maximizing their “human potential”. Her focus is on building the “peopleside” of business to obtain positive results in profitability, productivity, customer relations, and employee engagement and contribution. She enjoys working with any organizations most valuable asset-its people’s strengths! At a training session you may expect a contagious energy, creativity, and enthusiasm for the event she facilitates. Lisa Jean practices what she teaches. Creating an atmosphere of trust and leading by example are attributes that communicate her personal and professional commitment to her participants and client partners. Register today: $49 per person (This workshop is normally $99. This is a special offer for our community.) Mankato, Minn—The Mankato Symphony is pleased to announce our third installment of this season’s Music on the Hill chamber music series, hosted at the beautiful Good Counsel Chapel. The performance will begin at 2 pm on Sunday, February 15th. After the performance, the musicians will answer audience members’ questions regarding the pieces performed and general musicianship. Mankato Symphony Assistant Concertmaster and perennial Music on the Hill favorite Huldah Niles leads the ensemble. Fans of the series will notice the absence of Artistic Director Lydia Miller, who will return for the series finale in April. The concert’s title, Autobiography, is based on music inspired by composers’ own lives. Composition is a running theme throughout the season, culminating in the world premiere of a string quartet specially commissioned for Music on the Hill on April 12, 2015. In this concert, David Auerbach will be performing Stravinsky’s Elegy, a work for solo viola written in honor of a legendary violinist who passed away. To lighten things up, David, along with Huldah Niles, Cecilia Belcher and Sharon Mautner-Rodgers, will perform Scott Joplin’s The Chrysanthemum, a work dedicated to the woman who would become his first wife. Rounding out the program is Smetana’s String Quartet No. 1, subtitled “From My Life,” a dramatic and unforgettable work musically depicting the highs and lows of his life, including the traumatic hearing ailments he suffered in his fifties. 5
