Important Safeguards For Your Kambrook Soup Simple Soup Maker • Carefully read all instructions before operating the soup maker and save for future reference. • Do not place the soup maker near the edge of a bench or table during operation. Ensure that the surface is level, clean and free of water and other substances. • Always ensure the soup maker is properly assembled before use. Follow the instructions provided in this book. • This soup maker has been designed specifically for the purpose of making soup only. Under no circumstances should this product be used to boil any other liquids or cooking other foodstuffs. • Do not operate the soup maker on a sink drain board. • Do not place anything on top of the motor body/lid. • Do not touch hot surfaces. Ensure soup maker is completely cool before moving or storing. • Use caution when pouring soup from the soup maker, as hot soup and steam will scald. Do not pour the soup too quickly. • Keep the soup maker clean. Follow the cleaning instructions provided in this book. • Do not use chemicals, steel wool, or abrasive cleaners to clean the outside of the soup maker and motor body. 4 • Always fill the soup maker with water and food ingredients between the minimum (MIN) and maximum (MAX) marks on the stainless soup maker. If the soup maker is over or under filled, the soup maker will not operate. • The appliance connector must be removed before the soup maker is cleaned and that the appliance inlet must be dried before the soup maker is used again. • The motor body/lid should always be placed onto the soup maker before and during use. Do not remove the motor body/lid during operation as this may result in boiling soup splashing from the soup maker. Switch off and unplug the power cord from power outlet and soup maker before removing the motor body/lid. WARNING: Do not remove the motor body/ lid while the soup maker is operating • Do not operate the soup maker on an inclined plane. Do not move soup maker while it is switched on. WARNING: To protect against electric shock, do not immerse the power cord, power plug, soup maker or motor body/lid in water or any other liquid. • To prevent damage to the soup maker do not use alkaline cleaning agents. When cleaning, use a soft cloth and mild detergent. • Handle the mixing blade with care remember the blades are sharp and should be kept out of the reach of children. • Do not operate the ‘PULSE’ setting continuously for longer than 20 seconds. • Do not use the ‘BLEND’ setting for longer than 2 minutes. • Do not place any part of the soup maker in any dishwasher or microwave oven. Important Safeguards For All Electrical Appliances • Remove and safely discard all packaging material and promotional labels before using the appliance for the first time. • To eliminate a choking hazard for young children, remove and safely discard the protective cover fitted to the power plug of the appliance. • This appliance is for household use only. Do not use this appliance for other than its intended use. Do not use in moving vehicles or boats. Do not use outdoors. Misuse may cause injury. • Do not let the power cord hang over the edge of a bench or table, touch hot surfaces or become knotted. • The installation of a residual current device (safety switch) is recommended to provide additional safety protection when using electrical appliances. It is advisable that a safety switch with a rated residual operating current not exceeding 30mA be installed in the electrical circuit supplying the appliance. Press and hold the ‘START’ button for as long as blending is required. 9 Soup Maker Setting Guide Smooth Setting Pulse Setting The ‘SMOOTH’ setting gently cooks the ingredients to the correct temperature and then automatically blends to the right consistency for a smooth result. This setting runs for 21 minutes and the soup can be poured straight out to serve. Alternatively, if further blending is desired, see the ‘BLEND’ or ‘PULSE’ settings. The ‘PULSE’ setting is a blend-only setting without heating that assists, if required, to further manually blend finished Smooth or Chunky soup to a desired consistency. Unlike the ‘BLEND’ setting, ‘PULSE’ is a manual setting and, when chosen, will only blend while your finger is pressed down onto the ‘START’ button. The ‘PULSE’ setting is also good for creating smoothies, milkshakes and iced drinks. Chunky Setting The ‘CHUNKY’ setting is a heat-only setting (no blending) and cooks the ingredients until heated through. The setting runs for 28 minutes before the soup is ready to serve and enjoy. Alternatively, if some blending is desired, see the ‘BLEND’ or ‘PULSE’ settings. It is recommended when using the ‘CHUNKY’ setting to cut any vegetables and meat into small dice sized pieces. Blend Setting The ‘BLEND’ setting is a blend-only setting without heating that assists, if required, to further blend finished Smooth or Chunky soup to a desired consistency. This setting will blend intermittently over a 2 minute period when chosen. Alternatively, the ‘BLEND’ setting is also perfect for creating smoothies, milkshakes and iced drinks. 10 Using Your Kambrook Soup Maker Before First Use Before first use remove all promotional sticker and packaging material. Always remove all accessories stored inside the soup maker including the plastic measuring jug (handle not attached). The removable plastic handle accessory for the measuring jug slides in to the slot provided on the side of the measuring jug. Hand wash the removable measuring jug, the inside of the soup maker, the stainless steel blending shaft and blades attached to the motor body/lid in hot, soapy water, rinse and dry thoroughly according to the Care, Cleaning and Storage instructions on Page 19. Do not immerse the soup maker or the motor body/lid in water or any other liquid. IMPORTANT: The stainless steel blades are extremely sharp, handle with care! Ensure that the removable cord is not plugged in to the soup maker or power outlet. 2. Carefully remove the motor body/ lid, being careful not to touch the blending blades (See Fig 1). NOTE: During the cooking process liquid can evaporate and cause the soup maker to stop and issue an error message as the liquid will be below the ‘MIN’ capacity mark. NOTE: The soup maker will make a “beep” sound continuously and display ‘E3’ (error) on the digital control panel if under filled, or ‘E1’ (error) on the display control panel if over filled. Fig. 1 3. Remove the plastic measuring jug from the inside of the soup maker. 4. Place the ingredients into the soup as per the recipe being followed. 5. Ensure that the food contents and liquid fill up between the ‘MIN’ and ‘MAX’ marks shown on the inside of the soup maker (See Fig. 2). Give all the ingredients a good stir. 6. Place the motor body/lid back onto the soup maker, ensuring that it is securely in place (See Fig. 3). Fig. 3 7. Plug the removable power cord into the soup maker, and plug into the power outlet. Turn the switch on at the power outlet. Fig. 2 12 8. Select the ‘SMOOTH’ or ‘CHUNKY’ setting using the ‘SETTINGS’ button. For the ‘SMOOTH’ setting, press the ‘SETTINGS’ button once. For the ‘CHUNKY’ setting, press the ‘SETTINGS’ button twice. A red light will flash over the selected setting. Press the ‘START’ button to commence and the timer will begin to count down. Fig. 4 For ‘SMOOTH’ setting, the soup maker will slowly heat and then after several minutes automatically blend. 10. Clean the soup maker following the instructions on Page 19. For the ‘CHUNKY’ setting, the soup maker will heat only. The ‘BLEND’ setting can be used independently or after using the ‘SMOOTH’ or ‘CHUNKY’ setting to further process the food contents. The ‘BLEND’ setting does not heat the food contents; it blends the food contents intermittently over a 2 minute period. To use the ‘BLEND’ setting, follow the instructions below: NOTE: The soup maker will heat but not blend on the ‘CHUNKY’ setting. NOTE: We do not recommend you remove the motor body/lid during the cooking process. For safety reasons the soup maker is designed that if the motor body/lid is removed there is no reset function and the soup maker needs to be reset from the beginning of the setting. 9. When the soup is ready, the unit will make a “beep” sound for 1 minute and then stop. Switch off at the power outlet, and unplug the removable power cord from the power outlet and soup maker. Carefully remove the motor body/lid and slowly pour the contents into a bowl or the plastic measuring jug provided (See Fig. 4). Using the Blend Function 1. Ensure that the removable power cord is not plugged in to the soup maker or the power outlet. 2. Carefully remove the motor body/ lid, being careful not to touch the blending blades (See Fig. 5). Ensure that the food contents and liquid fill up between the ‘MIN’ and ‘MAX’ marks shown on the inside of the soup maker (See Fig. 6). Give all the ingredients a good stir. Fig. 7 6. Plug the removable power cord into the soup maker, and plug into the power outlet. Turn the switch on at the power outlet. Place the motor body/lid back onto the soup maker, ensuring that it is securely in place (See Fig. 7). 14 NOTE: If using the ‘BLEND’ setting after using either the ‘SMOOTH’ of ‘CHUNKY’ setting, follow the instructions starting at point 7. 7. Select the ‘BLEND’ setting by pressing the ‘SETTINGS’ button three times until the red light flashes over the setting, then press the ‘START’ button. The soup maker will blend the food contents intermittently for 2 minutes, and will make a “beep” sound for 1 minute when the ‘BLEND’ setting is complete. 8. When the setting is complete, switch off the power outlet, and unplug the removable cord from the power outlet and the soup maker. Carefully remove the motor body/lid and slowly pour the contents into a bowl or the plastic measuring jug provided. NOTE: After using the BLEND setting and the motor body/ lid is removed, steam may be found near the blending shaft. This steam is normal and will eventually cease. 4. Ensure that the food contents and liquid fill up between the ‘MIN’ and ‘MAX’ marks shown on the inside of the soup maker (See Fig. 9). Give all the ingredients a good stir. NOTE: If more blending is required, you can repeat the setting or use the ‘PULSE’ setting. 9. Clean the soup maker following instructions on Page 19. Fig. 9 Using the Pulse Function To use the ‘PULSE’ setting, follow the instructions below: 1. Ensure that the removable power cord is not plugged in to the soup maker or the power outlet. 2. Carefully remove the motor body/ lid, being careful not to touch the blending blades (See Fig. 8). NOTE: The soup maker will make a “beep” sound continuously and display ‘E3’ (error) on the digital control panel if under filled, or ‘E1’ (error) on the display control panel if over filled. 5. Place the motor body/lid back onto the soup maker, ensuring that it is securely in place (See Fig. 10). Fig. 8 3. Place the ingredients into the soup maker as per the recipe being followed. Select the ‘PULSE’ setting by pressing the ‘SETTINGS’ button four times until the red light flashes over the setting, then press and hold the ‘START’ button. The soup maker will blend the food contents for the amount of time that you press the ‘START’ button. NOTE: Do not operate the ‘PULSE’ setting continuously for longer than 20 seconds. 8. When blending is complete, switch off the power outlet, and unplug the removable cord from the power outlet and the soup maker. Carefully remove the motor body/lid and slowly pour the contents into a bowl or the plastic measuring jug provided. NOTE: If more blending is required, you can repeat the setting or use the ‘BLEND’ setting. 9. Clean the soup maker following the instructions on Page 19. 16 Troubleshooting Guide Issue The soup maker shuts off during the cooking process before cooking is finished Burnt residue on the base of the soup maker Problem • The soup maker is equipped with safety overheat protection in the form of a sensor that detects if the soup maker is getting too hot and will automatically turn the soup maker off. The sensor is located in the base of the soup maker and may be triggered by the contents of some recipes, such as foods that are high in starch or sugar, ‘settling’ to the bottom of the soup maker during the heating process covering the base causing the temperature rise. You may find that the food settling leaves a burnt residue on the base of the soup maker (see burnt residue issue). • Bottom of soup maker has a burnt mark and is difficult to clean. • High sugar content or starchy foods such as tomatoes, creamed corn, coconut cream, potatoes have stuck to the base of soup maker. Solution • ^To help prevent settling, add more liquid content to the recipe, especially if cooking sugary or starchy foods. Note: This may require adding less food content in order to accommodate. • Fill the soup maker close to the MAX indicator line marked inside the soup maker and only add cold or at least tepid liquids (i.e. cold broths, not hot) into the soup maker. • Give all ingredients a good stir prior to placing the soup maker motor/lid on the soup maker. • To remove residue burnt to the base, follow the cleaning instructions under Residue Removal from Base found on page 19 of this instruction manual. • Flour added to the recipe has left a burnt residue in the base of the soup maker. Error Message E3 is showing • The soup maker is equipped with a safety boil dry probe which detects when there is not enough liquid in the soup maker during cooking. • Liquid may have evaporated from the soup maker during operation. Error Message E1 is showing • The soup maker is equipped with a safety overflow probe which detects when there is too much liquid in the soup maker during cooking which might cause the soup maker liquid to boil over. • Be sure to place enough liquid to more than cover above the MIN level mark indicated on the inside of the soup maker. • Add more liquid to the soup maker and restart the cooking process. • Reduce liquid amount in the soup maker to MAX level mark indicated inside the soup maker. 17 Troubleshooting Guide Issue continued Problem Solution Soup maker is making ‘noise’ and/or shaking during operation • The soup maker does make some noise and may shake somewhat during operation. This is normal. • The soup maker blends during the cooking process when using the ‘SMOOTH’, ‘BLEND’ or ‘PULSE’ settings. This blending action causes the unit to shake. Plastic measuring jug inside the soup maker • The soup maker comes with a plastic measuring jug accessory which can be found inside the soup maker when first removed from packaging. DO NOT operate the soup maker with the measuring jug inside. • The plastic measuring jug without handle attached sits inside the soup maker for shipping and storage purposes only. Always remove the measuring jug before using the soup maker. • Unsure how to attach/remove measuring jug handle. NOTE: We recommend that you do not add flour to the soup maker as it can cause food to burn to the bottom of the soup maker. ^NOTE: If the cooking process is interrupted for any reason during operation, for safety reasons there is no automatic reset button on the soup maker. The program will need to be reset and start the cooking process from the very beginning of the program selected. 18 • To attach/remove the measuring jug handle, slide the handles in or out of the slot found on the side of the measuring jug. Care, Cleaning and Storage Cleaning Before cleaning, turn the power off at the power outlet and then remove the removable power cord. Carefully remove the motor body/lid from the soup maker. Motor Body/Lid, Stainless Steel Shaft and Blades The stainless steel blending shaft and blades attached to the motor body/lid should be hand washed in hot soapy water, rinsed and dried thoroughly after each use, being careful not to get the control panel wet. Do not use abrasive cleaners or steel wool. IMPORTANT: The stainless steel blades are extremely sharp, handle with care! To remove any food residue on the motor body/lid, wipe the motor body/ lid with a damp cloth only. Do not use abrasive cleaners or steel wool. Never immerse the motor body/lid in water or any other liquid. Soup Maker The soup maker should be hand washed by filling the soup maker with hot soapy water, wiping with a sponge and then rinsing and drying thoroughly after each use. Wipe the outside of the soup maker with a soft, dry cloth. Never immerse the soup maker in water or any other liquid. When rinsing, be careful to keep the power inlet away from the pouring tap. Do not use abrasive cleaners or steel wool. Cleaning Residue from Base For stubborn stains, such as burnt residue on the base of the soup maker caused by food settling to the base, fill the soup maker with normal tap water to between the MIN and MAX lines, then add 4-5 tablespoons of salt (if salt is not available, 250ml of vinegar), set the soup maker to the ‘CHUNKY’ setting and press the START button. Let the soup maker operate for at least 15 minutes, pour the water content out and then run the soup maker under cold water to cool. A thorough scrub with a plastic scourer should lift the mark. As an alternative method or for very stubborn stain removal, clean with #Gumption ® Multi-Purpose Paste Cleaner which can be found at most supermarkets. Follow the instructions on the Gumption packaging. Be sure to thoroughly clean and rinse all the paste from the soup maker before reusing. NOTE: # Gumption ® instructions state not to use on stainless steel appliances which can be scratched; the soup maker has a brushed stainless steel internal finish so scratching should not be an issue. 19 Care, Cleaning and Storage WARNING: The appliance connector must be removed before the soup maker is cleaned and the appliance inlet must be dried before the soup maker is used again. QUICK WASH: Between each soup batch, fill the soup maker to the ‘MAX’ mark with hot soapy water. Select the ‘PULSE’ setting and then press the ‘START’ button for 5 seconds. This will remove any food on the blade and shaft. Storage Before storage, turn the power off at the power outlet and then remove the removable power cord. Ensure the soup maker is clean and completely dry. Place the motor body/lid on the soup maker. Store upright on the bench top or in a convenient cupboard. Do not store any objects on top of the soup maker. 20 continued Recipes 21 Recipes Potato and Leek Soup NOTE: Make sure to remove the plastic measuring jug found inside the soup maker before adding ingredients or starting the cooking process. NOTE: Once all ingredients have been added into the soup maker make sure to give the ingredients a good stir before placing the motor body/lid back onto the soup maker and selecting the soup setting. Serves 4 50g butter 1 clove garlic, minced 1 small brown onion, diced ½ leek, thinly sliced 2 sprigs thyme, shredded 650g potatoes, peeled, 2cm pieces 800ml vegetable stock 100ml pure cream 4 slices fresh bread, to serve 1. In a saucepan, heat the butter and sauté the garlic and onion. 2. Place all ingredients into the soup maker. 3. Place the motor body/lid on to the soup maker. 4. Select the ‘SMOOTH’ soup setting and then select the ‘START’ button. 5.
