KCJS 科目（Spring Semester 2015） 登録者募集要項 KCJS 科目の登録希望者を募集します。 この科目の登録者は、 「Kyoto Consortium for Japanese Studies (以下 KCJS)」が同志社大学今出川 校地にて実施している日本留学プログラムの Spring Semester 2015 の講義に出席することになります。 この講義では、KCJS の学生と同様の課題が課せられ、積極的な参加が求められます。日本にいながら にしてアメリカの一流大学の講義が体験できる大変貴重な機会ですので、是非この機会を活用して、同 志社大学の教育理念のひとつである「国際主義」を体得してください。 なお、この科目を登録して合格した場合、同志社大学から「KCJS 科目（2 単位） 」が付与されます。 KCJS（Kyoto Consortium for Japanese Studies）は、1989 年に京都市内に設立され、一年間の海外 留学生プログラムでは、京都の歴史的・文化的な資産を生かして、高度な教育環境を提供し、日本研究 を志す米国の大学生と、知的で文化的な交流を広くすすめています。このプログラムには、アメリカの 14 の一流大学：ボストン大学、ブラウン大学、シカゴ大学、コロンビア大学（バーナードカレッジを含 む） 、コーネル大学、エモリー大学、ハーバード大学、ペンシルヴァニア大学、プリンストン大学、スタ ンフォード大学、ワシントン大学（セントルイス校）、イエール大学、さらにはミシガン大学、ヴァージ ニア大学が参加しています。 【募集人数】 各講義で 2 名ずつ募集 【日程】 募 集 期 間 ：2014 年 11 月 25 日（火）～ 12 月 5 日（金） 面 接 ：2014 年 12 月 15 日（月） 今出川校地 ※一人 10 分程度の面接を予定 ※面接日当日に授業の予定がある場合は、出願時に申し出ること。 Orientation ：2015 年 1 月 7 日（水）～ 1 月 9 日（金）の間で実施（詳細は後日案内） ※授業以外の理由での欠席は不可 授 業 期 間 ：2015 年 1 月 13 日（火）～4 月 17 日（金） Final Exam ：2015 年 4 月 21 日（火）～4 月 23 日（木） ※ 2月11日（水）の祝日は休講 2月 6日（金）KCJS spring tripのため休講 2月28日（土）～ 3月 8日（日）Spring Break のため休講 【登録資格】 １．2015 年度春学期に同志社大学に在籍する学部生 ２．日本に関する相当の知識が必要であるため、日本での滞在期間が 6 年以上の者 ３．TOEFL iBT79 点(ITP550 点)、IELTS5.5 以上の英語能力を有する者 ※スコア票のコピーを添えて出願すること。 （TOEFL/IELTS 以外のスコアは受付不可。 ） ４．Orientation と 1 回目の授業に必ず参加し、全授業の 8 割以上に出席できる者 ＊KCJS 科目はすべて英語で行われます。米国人学生と同様の課題が課せられ、講義への積極的な参加が求められま す。登録者は同志社大学の代表として KCJS の講義に参加することになります。無責任な講義欠席は認められませ んので、よく考えた上で出願してください。
【登録出願書類提出場所】 国際センター国際課（両校地で受付可） 【出願に際しての留意点】 （１）講義は同志社大学今出川キャンパスで行われます。 （２）本科目は、同志社大学から単位が付与されます。KCJS から単位は付与されません。 （３）本科目は、KCJS の面接等による選考を経て許可を得ないと登録することができません。 （４）本科目は 2014 年度秋学期、2015 年度春学期にわたって授業期間が設定されているため、両方の 学期において他の授業との時間割重複に注意する必要があります。2014 年度秋学期、または 2015 年度春学期に本科目と他の授業との時間割が重複した場合は、本科目もしくは他科目を登録・履 修することが出来ません。なお 2015 年度春学期の本科目以外の授業時間割は未定ですので、出願 の際には十分ご留意ください。 （５）本科目を登録可能な学部・入学年度は以下のとおりです。 法学部は 2002 年度～2014 年度入学生、工学部は 2003 年度～2007 年度入学生 神学部、文学部、社会学部、経済学部、商学部は 2007 年度～2014 年度入学生 政策学部は 2006 年度～2014 年度入学生 文化情報学部、理工学部、生命医科学部、スポーツ健康科学部、心理学部、グローバル・コミュ ニケーション学部、グローバル地域文化学部、国際教育インスティテュートは全入学年度生 （６）本科目は、2015 年度春学期科目であり先行登録科目です。登録が許可された場合は、大学が一括 して科目登録をおこないますので、登録手続きは不要です。 （７）登録が許可された場合は、必ず科目登録することになります。本科目の履修を中止する場合は、 国際課が設定する履修中止期間中に申請する必要があります。 （８）本科目の単位が卒業必要単位となるかどうかは、入学年度・学部・学科により異なります。科目 登録の詳細は 2015 年度の所属学部の履修要項、および全学共通教養教育科目の履修要項をご確認 ください。 （９）募集対象科目クラスは後述の通りです。この中から登録希望クラスを選択し、出願してください。 登録は１人１クラスのみ可能です。 （１０）本科目で過去に一度単位取得したクラスの登録（受講）はできません。 （１１）各講師の都合により、クラス時間の変更等が生じる場合がありますので予めご了承下さい。 また、授業時間以外に、フィールドトリップが実施されるクラスもありますので、ご注意くださ い。 （１２）この科目への登録が決定した場合、受講費用として 10,000 円を KCJS に納める必要があります。 また、別途教科書を購入する必要がありますのでご了承ください。 （１３）所定の願書を使って出願してください。願書は、国際センター国際課（両校地）または国際課 ホームページ（http://international.doshisha.ac.jp/study_abroad/kcjs/kcjs.html ）にて 入手可能です。 （１４）願書の英語能力欄については、TOEFL スコアを記入してください。受験していない場合は他の英 語能力を示す試験結果等を記入してください。 （１５） 「Fall Semester 2015」の募集は 2015 年 7 月頃を予定しております。
【募集対象科目】 1. Survey of Modern Japanese Literature: From Meiji to Murakami
(Professor Marvin Marcus)
This course will provide a survey of modern Japanese literature that covers the principle genres of prose narrative and poetry. Our survey, which will move in roughly chronological order, will explore the work of acknowledged authors such as Soseki, Akutagawa, Kawabata, Tanizaki, Oe, and Murakami, together with lesser‐known writers. We will consider the range of themes that emerge in this literature—the interplay of tradition and modernity, the interface of the individual and social circumstance, the play of gender and narrative voice. We will also examine the shifting cultural and political milieu, the war and its aftermath, and recent developments on the literary and cultural scene. Our overall aim will be to enjoy and appreciate the richness of Japan's modern literature, to gain a better understanding of the cultural history of modern Japan, and to understand how the works we read speak to the overall conditions of life in the modern world.
（火・木 4講時） 2. Japanese Autobiographical Literature: Modes of Reflection and Reminiscence
(Professor Marvin Marcus) This course will explore Japanese writing across a thirteen‐century spectrum that collectively reflects upon one's life, one's past, and the human condition. We will read works in a number of personal genres--poetry, diary, essay, memoir, autobiography—by individuals variously associated with the imperial court, the samurai elite, and the modern literary community. Our texts will afford us a broad perspective upon Japanese writers who reflect upon their world and reclaim their past through literature. Our aim will be to study—and appreciate- - the diversity and depth of the personal voice, created in different eras and in different genres, and how these voices turn the raw material of memory, impression, and reflection into accounts of lives lived and the meaning of life itself. Our modern texts will draw heavily upon memories of the city - Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto, most prominently – and how writers have situated themselves in the urban spaces they reconstruct in narrative form. Note: Both literature courses will incorporate a translation component, whereby students with sufficient language proficiency could translate targeted passages of selected works. This will be negotiated in consultation with the individual students.

3. Religious Visual Culture of Japan
(Professor Hillary Pedersen)
Visual culture is best understood as a way of studying societies and cultures through images, rather than words. We will explore how religious paintings, sculpture, architecture, internet‐based media, film and television contribute to different perceptions of religious practice in Japan. We will study the formal characteristics and functions of Japanese sculpture, painting, architecture and other visual media. While the visual culture of major Japanese religious traditions such as Buddhism and Shinto will be a large part of our study, we will also cover that of other religions in Japan, such as Christianity. The theme of cross‐cultural exchange will be ever‐present in lectures, as well as in the writing assignments and discussions that reinforce course content.
（火・木 3講時） 4. Political Economy of Japan
(Professor Ikuo Kume)
This course is designed to introduce students to contemporary Japanese Political Economy. We will discuss several important issues of Japanese political economy, such as the government role in economic growth, political participation, and party politics in a comparative framework, and try to understand them theoretically. The course is taught one day/week in a three‐hour session, which consists of a debate/presentation part and a lecture part. We will have a debate on the issue related to the lecture given the previous week. Students are expected to participate actively in the debate in addition to the class discussion.

5. Civil Society and Voluntary Action in Japan
The significance of the civil society and voluntary sector in Japan has never been greater than today. Organizations like nonprofits and neighborhood associations are now considered key actors in solving urgent social issues such as the rising need for elderly care that emerges from an ever-aging society, efforts to prepare for natural disasters that strike Japan frequently, and revitalizing rural communities. This course will explore the roles civil society organizations play in Japan today, as well as the challenges they face. The class will also examine whether the civil society and voluntary sector in Japan is unique in comparison to other societies in terms of giving, volunteering, and advocacy. The class will offer opportunities to visit and hear from practitioners of civil society organizations in Kyoto and the greater Kansai area.
