The medicine Sirungi Parpam is mainly prepared from deer’s horn and is used for curing rickets, coughs, tuberculosis, small pox and measles. An a ttempt has been made to analyse the siddha medicine “Sirungi Parpam”by using UV spectroscopy and constant deviation spectrograph. The present study reveals that this medicine “Sirungi Parpam” contains calcium and iron as major components and traces of sil  icon and sodium. The calcium strengthens thebone and the iron improves the Haemoglobin percentage in blood. The Silicon also helps to improve the health. These favours the Sirungi Purpam to cure the diseases like tuberculosis and Rickets permanently. The medicine Sirungi Parpam is mainly  prepared from deer’s horn and is used for curing rickets, coughs, tuberculosis, small pox and measles 1 . This paper deals with thestudy of UV spectroscopy and Constant deviation spectrograph on the medicine “Sirungi Parpam”.   Material and Methods The medicine Sirungi Parpam has been purchased from siddhaunit and used as such for the present study. The UV- visiblespectrum of the sample has been recorded in the region 200-800nm by using Perkin Elmer-Lamda 35 model UVspectrophotometer and analysed. The emission spectrum of Constant deviation spectrograph has been recorded and theemission lines have been indexed by using the standard reportedvalues 2 . Results and Discussion The UV-visible spectrum of the sample is shown in figure 1 andthe observed wavelengths of the absorption peaks are tabulatedin table 1. Since, the medicine is mainly prepared from the deer’s horn, it i s expected that the major element present may becalcium and iron. So, the UV spectrum of calcium carbonatehas been recorded and the observed wavelengths of absorption peaks are compared with that of the sample and is shown intable 1. These absorption peak wavelengths of Sirungi parpamare found to be in well agreement with that of Calciumcarbonate confirming the presence of Calcium carbonate in thesample 3 . Since, few other peaks are not able to be indexed, thespectrum of Constant deviation spectrograph has been recordedin order to find the presence of other elements in the medicine.The observed wavelengths of the emission lines obtained by theconstant deviation spectrograph are indexed as shown in table 2and they are in good agreement with the reported standardvalues 2-4 . This study confirms the presence of calcium and ironas major components and traces of sodium and silicon in thesample. Since, the medicine Sirungi Parpam seems to be rich iniron and calcium, it strengthens the bones by calcium andincreases the Haemoglobin percentage in blood by iron. Thishelps to cure the diseases tuberculosis and rickets permanently.The presence of silicon may be due to the preparation of themedicine in the earthern vessel. This is similar to the preparation of silicon doped Gallium Arsenide. For preparing Sidoped GaAs, the Gallium and Arsenic are heated in Silicaampoules instead of adding silicon directly 5 . In the same way, preparation of medicine in earthern vessels at high temperaturemay add the silicon into the medicine, which may be anadvantageous one. Because, In olden days, people used to saythat the food cooked in earthern vessel cools our body and isvery good for health. Nowadays, even in five star hotels, foodsare cooked in earthern vessels to increase the taste of the food.In addition, earthern vessels are protecting the food from theharmful radiations. The calcium strengthens the bone, theiron improves the haemoglobin percentage in blood and thesodium helps to maintain the water level in our body. TheSilicon also helps to improve the health and hygiene.
