Stamping is a system of adding an impressioned pattern, a two toned colour effect and texture to the surface of a newly poured concrete pavement. You can create a realistic effect of slate, stone and wood.
The Release agent pigments the deepest points to highlight the pattern
Suitable Uses Residential Setting - driveways, patio’s, paths and decorative kerbing. Caution: Due to the smooth surface, stamped is not suitable for sloping pavements, pool areas or for regular use by the elderly or disabled persons. Do not consider this finish on surfaces which require a slip resistant surface. Specifying a cove finish will assist but may not solve the slip issue.

Components Colour Hardener Colour Hardener: is a dry shake, surface colour system used as the base or main colour. It provides a vibrant depth of colour with the added benefit of strengthening the concrete surface up to 47 MPa. A variety of finishes can be achieved from smooth to rough texture. Some level of slip resistance can be achieved if specified. (Refer to finishes)
Coloured Release Agent Release agents have a dual function. 1. When impressioned into the concrete, the Release Agent colours or stains the deeper impressioned areas creating the two toned look. 2. A water resistant wax coating which stops the stamp mats from sticking to the concrete
Stamped Impression Mats Rubber or urethane matts which are moulded into shapes and impressioned with a surface texture. The set of mats fit together like a jigsaw puzzle allowing the contractor to impression a continuous pattern onto the pavement. The mats consist of a deep impression which outlines a shape such as rocks, pavers and timber boards. Each 2
Seamless matt is the only matt which does not consist of a shape, rather provides a large area of shallow impression creating a sandstone look. Seal Coat Sealer is added to achieve the high gloss look of Stamped Concrete. Please note, sealing a smooth surface will increase the risk of slipping. For a high gloss finish use M20 Urethane Sealer. For a semi -gloss use Parchem’s Acrylic Sealer. To achieve a natural look use Lustreseal Matt Finish Sealer. Sealing aids cleanability by helping to reduce the level of dirt ingress and helps enhance the decorative appearance. Whilst not chemical resistant, sealer provides protection from contaminants such as petrol and oil.

STEP 1: Preparation & Protection
STEP 5: Apply Release Agent
STEP 2: Place slab as per AS 3727
STEP 6: Stamp
STEP 3: Apply Colour Hardener
STEP 7: Three days curing to allow the Release Agent to take effect
STEP 4: Apply surface texture
STEP 8: Seal the surface adding slip resistant additive *If powdered Release Agent is used, an additional step is required to wash and remove the Release Agent from the surface. 3

Limitations
Slip and skid resistance is largely determines by the final finish. Slip resistant surfaces are easy to achieve with Colour Hardener due to the sands in the mix and application method. The following finishes are widely accepted within the construction and concrete industries: Smooth Trowel
Timing is crucial to the success of stamp jobs. Powdered R/A will contaminate the water ways. Sand traps must be put on the drains to prevent the Release Agent entering the storm water. All Release Agent must be washed off as the sealer will not bond Licenced Contractor must be experienced in decorative concrete applications – not a DIY application Weather Freeze Thaw – adjust concrete mix accordingly Mess if preventative steps are not taken Suitability of this product must ultimately be determined by the contractor
This document only discusses the decorative finish on the surface. Slab design must include all structural elements such as sound supporting sub base, reinforcement, and compaction and correct jointing required producing structural integrity within the slab itself. This system must be applied in accordance with product application manual and Technical Data. Application methods supplied in this document are a summary only.
Cove Finished Stamp
Relevant Standards & Documents of Interest Maintenance Regular maintenance and cleaning of the surface will prevent staining and keep the pavement looking at its best. Reseal every 12 – 18 months depending on the in service conditions. Please contact a Parchem Branch for instructions and further advice.
