The Lockview Linkletter – Welcome Back Edition LOCKVIEW PUBLIC SCHOOL 505 Bunting Road, St. Catharines, ON L2M 3A9 905-934-3331 lockview.dsbn.org Principal: Bob Blake Vice-Principal: Paulette Alcox FROM THE OFFICE… A warm welcome to our new and returning staff, students and families! We hope that you and your family had a wonderful summer. A huge thank you to our Head Caretaker Mr. Tattrie who once again worked his magic over the summer despite the never ending dust and dirt created from the construction to provide us with a clean and safe learning environment, as well as our outstanding and dedicated staff who spent many hours planning and setting up their classrooms for another engaging year. As always we value the partnership between home and school and encourage you to contact us with questions, concerns or comments. We strongly believe that a positive environment with open communication is key to a successful school. GO LEOPARDS GO! Achieving Success Together TAKE A MOMENT TO REVIEW OUR SCHOOL WEBSITE AT: http://www.lockview.dsbn.org PARKING LOT SAFETY REMINDERS Our newly completed south parking lot will be our primary parking lot for visitors and parents picking up and dropping off students. Please keep in mind that there is a new kiss and ride feature which will allow a quick and safe drop off zone for our students. To reduce parking lot congestion you may consider meeting your child on a side street such as Goldsmith or Rochelle and always ensure that you are parked in a designated parking spot to allow for a safe flow of traffic within our parking lot. Staff will continue to supervise the south parking lot during entry and dismissal times. Please be punctual for pick-up. Dismissal is at 2:55pm. Thank you for your continued co-operation in keeping Lockview students SAFE! FORMS! FORMS! To keep our records up to date please complete and return all the forms as soon as possible. The Lunch form, Walking form and the Technology Citizenship Agreement need to be returned to the school. VERIFICATION FORMS – PLEASE READ THIS INFORMATION CAREFULLY Please review the student verification form carefully, make the necessary changes and return it to the school as soon as possible. All forms should be returned, even if there are no changes. These forms are important to help us maintain a safe environment. SCHOOL EMERGENCY DISMISSAL PROCEDURE In case of an early emergency dismissal (snow storm, no hydro or heat, etc.), students will be dismissed according to the information on the Elementary School – Student Verification form. Just to clarify; Keep at school – means exactly that. Your child will be kept at the school until you have been contacted. If your child is a bus student, they will be kept at the school until you have been contacted. Send home by bus or taxi – if this is your child’s normal mode of transportation home (Lockview has no students being transported by taxi at this time). If your child regularly takes the bus home from school, and you have chosen this option, your child will be put on the bus without a phone call. Dismiss immediately – your child(ren) will be dismissed without a call being made to your home. Send home with older sibling – your children will be dismissed without a call being made to your home. OFFICE INFORMATION NO NUTS PLEASE! Mrs. Allison, our secretary is in the office from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. each week day. Appointments with administration and/or staff can be made through the office at 905-934-3331. Please inform the office of all absences. We have an answering machine, therefore a message can be left at any time of the day or night. We also recognize that from time to time it is necessary to contact the school to get a message to your child. Since the office is a busy place and it is not always possible for Mrs. Allison to be delivering messages to students, please try to make all of the necessary arrangements with your child(ren) in advance to avoid any missed communication. Students should be using the office telephone for emergency calls only. We have children in our school with severe nut allergies. It is our request that you do not send nut based foods as snacks or lunch items to school with your child. We know you are all caring parents and we appreciate your concern and compliance in this very important matter. STUDENT SAFETY As part of staff and student safety, all outside doors will continue to be kept locked during the school day. We ask parents to wait for children outside their entry and exit doors. If you are bringing a child in late, please bring them to the front door and ring the entry buzzer. Once you have been permitted to enter, you will be asked to report directly to the office. All visitors must follow the same entry process. MEDICATION FOR STUDENTS AND EMERGENCY ACTION PLANS Any prescribed medication that is to be administered to students at school must have an “Administering Health Support Services to Students “authorization form completed by the physician on file in the school. If a child is highly allergic (anaphylactic), an ”Emergency Action Plan For Students With Anaphylaxis” must be filled out by the parent/doctor. There is also an “Emergency Action Plan for Students with Special Medical Problems” that must be completed if your child suffers from (e.g. asthma, epilepsy, diabetes) which outlines the expected symptoms and requested intervention by school staff. These forms are available at the school office and must be updated each year. LOCKVIEW STAFF 2014 – 2015 LOCKVIEW STAFF Several changes in staff have occurred since last year. We wish those who left the very best in their new endeavours and extend a hearty welcome back to some familiar faces as well as some newcomers. Staffing requirements are dictated by the enrollment of the school. As our enrollment is firmed up during the next few days, adjustments to staffing and to classes may be necessary.
