If we have inadvertently left your name off a listing, please notify us immediately. Listings in the 2016-2017 Annual Report recognize gifts received through the School’s fiscal year ending June 30, 2017. The Oakwood School is a tax-exempt organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Our Federal tax identification number is 56-1938898.1The Oakwood School admits students of any race, color, national and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national and ethnic origin, in administration of its educational/admissions policies, scholarship, loan, athletic and other school-administered programs.A note from Mr. Peterson Dear Oakwoodians, 2016-2017 was another excellent year for Oakwood. Under the guidance of Oakwood’s mission, our faculty and staff worked exceedingly hard on behalf of our students and their families, which was confirmed by SAIS/AdvancED awarding a 2017-2022 reaccreditation after a year-long intensive process. In addition to accreditation, many things confirmed Oakwood’s excellence this year including awards and strong placements in the following areas: academic testing in all disciplines and competitions in math, science, geography, and spelling; fine arts performances and competitions and audiences of over 800 attending four shows of The Sound of Music; and outstanding athletic achievements such as a State Championship in Boys Tennis and deep runs in state tournaments from Girls and Boys Soccer and the Softball team. And after Hurricane Matthew, our students, families, faculty, and staff reached out to the community by supporting Princeville School and the students’ families in their time of need. Likewise, a significant grant by Southern Bank Foundation confirmed recognition of Oakwood’s stellar academic programs allowing Department Heads to expand development of their disciplines. Each of these accomplishments and the many more highlighted in the following pages are confirmations and reminders of Oakwood’s high caliber. It is bittersweet for me that Oakwood’s 22nd year and my 10th year will be my last at such a fine institution. I am grateful to all the faculty and staff, students, alums, past and current families and community friends who have made this school what it is… remarkable. Oakwood is a very special place. Gini and I are so proud that we will finish our careers here at this wonderful school that offers such a well-rounded 21st century education to children in Greenville and surrounding communities. I thank you all for your support of Oakwood and for your support of my leadership. Sincerely,FINANCIAL OVERVIEW FROM THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES Dear Oakwood Community, I am delighted to report that 2016-2017 has been another strong year financially for The Oakwood School. In looking at our three fundraising efforts, the Corporate Partnership program, the Annual Fund, and the Blue Jean Ball, all three combined to net a total of $335,450. In addition, we received more than $188,000 in restricted donations. Likewise, our balance sheet continues to be in the black with a balanced budget for the 7th straight year. The pie charts below break out revenues and expenses for your review noting that any surplus went to reserves. Thanks to the Development Team, Business Office, and Board for their hard work with the biggest thanks to you for your generosity, commitment and confidence in our school. Annual Giving is a top priority and helps to make up the difference between what tuition covers and the cost to educate each student. This year’s donors included parents, faculty and staff, alumni and alumni parents, grandparents, local businesses, corporations and friends of the school. Truly a community wide effort!
