newsle t t er & Programs JANUARY | FEBRUARY 2014 Rogers Memorial Library Dedicated to inspire lifelong learning and serve the educational and cultural needs of the community. ur work turned Have yo into a postcard and d a e t r o u u nd the v d i s t r ib illage! Enter now! Calling all Artists! Help us keep the memory of the beech tree alive. “Artists view the world differently. They can help us see our surroundings in remarkable ways, create icons that last in the mind, and encourage new ways of thinking.” When the majestic beech tree came down in the fall, the Board of Trustees ensured that a good supply of wood was harvested for use in making furniture for the library. The wood is currently being stored in a local shop where it is undergoing a drying process. This process could take up to a year or more but we feel it is worth the wait. The plan is to design and build furniture such as a conference table for Cooper Hall and perhaps a bench or side table for the main library. We are seeking images that highlight the many remarkable places in and around the Village and Town of Southampton that newcomers and residents visit: shops, restaurants, historic sites, beaches, etc. The cost has been estimated at between $12,000 and $15,000. The Library Trustees invite the community to become a part of this project and have begun a fundraising campaign.
